How do you use my photos and my data?

We store the photos our users make with the time and location the photo was made. We use the photos for further data processing based on what is visible on the image. We will never sell, use or share your personal information to third parties and are only interested in the photo you made without any link to your personal information. All our data collection and storage is compliant with regulatory and legal requirements. Any further analytics are to improve TL;DR, not to build personal profiles.

For any supermarket we are not active in, TL;DR will still work as products in the majority of supermarkets are the same. However we cannot guarantee coverage and recognition on all products in supermarkets that we have not listed as an actively covered supermarket. In addition, please take into account that results depend on how readable the labels are in your photo.

TL;DR is available via a web app in your browser. We’re working on native iOS and Android apps.

Yes. TL;DR gives you a fast visual overview, but the product label remains the final source of truth. Always read the full label.

How accurate is the information?

We analyze the information on the packaging to the best of our abilities, but product data can change. Always double-check the packaging if you’re unsure or have medical needs.

TL;DR does not recognize the products in my picture, what should I do?

Try to make the picture as clear as possible with readable and recognizable labels and packaging. Although we try to make TL;DR as universal in use as possible, the quality of the picture impacts the output. Things which might impact the quality of the output are light/glare, shadows, fridge doors, blocking objects and/or the angle of the picture of the product.

How many product can you scan in one picture?

As the main use for TL;DR is to compare multiple products while grocery shopping, our functionality can scan entire shelves in one go as long as the products in the picture are clearly visible and recognizable.

No, you’ll need an active internet connection so we can process your photo and apply filters.

Do I need to download anything to get started?

No, you simply open our web app in your browser and you’re good to go.
